Point your camera and discover the constellation
The rear camera's image becomes your window onto the sky. Constellation lines and names appear over it. COSMO360 determines the direction using your phone's compass and tilt, and the positions of the stars using your location and the current time. Turn your phone and the labels follow the sky.
How do I start observing?
Tap 'Open camera' and determine your location or choose a city. Then tap 'Enable camera' and allow camera and motion access. Hold the screen toward you, pointing the rear camera at a star. The name of the constellation in front of you appears below.
Why is a compass needed?
As in Star Walk's AR mode, object positions are calculated from the phone's direction. Even if the stars are too faint for the camera, the map shows their positions. Pointing mode requires a phone with a compass; a manual map is available without one.
How do I align the labels with the stars?
Tap “Align with the sky” and choose a bright object you can see in the video. Centre it in the reticle, hold the phone still and confirm. Then turn the phone until the same object reaches the marker on the right: the second step measures the camera’s field of view. Remove magnetic cases and move away from metal. Repeat alignment each time you restart the camera; accuracy depends on the phone’s sensors.
Can I use it on a computer?
Open 'Sky map without camera'. Drag the sky, zoom in and find objects with search. All 88 constellations are available in the catalog, including those currently below the horizon.
